Honestly, it weirds me out a bit that these do not have spring hinges. These are the spring hinge frame type. The standard 2.0 (non spring hinge) has a stamped metal frame that is screwed together at the outside corner where the hinge is. Pictures below.

I would guess by the original color options and the cats eye look it was intended for Women.
